Update on NYA shooting incident

The Carver County Sheriff's Office still has not released the names of an off-duty McLeod County sheriff's deputy and suspect involved in an early morning shooting at the Kwik Trip in Norwood Young America, but did say the deputy was treated for minor injuries and has been released from the Ridgeview Medical Center.

The sheriff's office's latest news release on the incident is as follows:

Sheriff Jim Olson reports that on April 17 at about 2:39 a.m. , sheriff’s deputies responded to the KWIK Trip Store at 520 Reform St. N. in Norwood Young America to investigate a disturbing the peace complaint. Responding deputies arrived and learned an “unruly patron” had gone to the Kwik Trip just before 2:39 a.m. and was involved in a struggle with an off-duty McLeod County Deputy Sheriff who also happened to be at the Kwik Trip. At some point during the confrontation, a firearm was discharged. The “unruly patron” fled the scene and was later found a few blocks away. He was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries. The off-duty deputy remained on the scene and was transported to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA)  was summoned to conduct the investigation, which is standard protocol for the Carver County Sheriff’s Office when investigating officer-involved shootings. The Kwik Trip remains closed while investigators continue to process the scene for physical evidence. The roadways adjacent to the store are open at this time. The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time, pending interviews.
