Veterans to be honored at McLeod County Fair
It was an idea everybody liked but hadn’t been enacted. This year, the McLeod County Fair Board is making sure veterans in the county receive the honor they deserve during the fair’s five-day run today (Wednesday) through Sunday, Aug. 19.
Tomorrow, Aug. 16, the fair is honoring the military service of county residents. McLeod County has a rich history of military service dating back to the American Civil War. Its men and women have served their country in major conflicts from World War II to the present.
After years of discussion, the fair’s staff decided the time had come to give veterans a special day at the county fair. Veterans will receive free admission to the county fair tomorrow (Thursday).
“It’s always been something on our radar of things we wanted to do,” said Casey Walters, the fair’s manager. “This is something we felt would be a nice sign of our appreciation for veterans.”
Jim Lauer, McLeod County Veterans’ Service Officer will lead presentations at 11 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. in the South Tent. The presentations will be on benefits veterans have earned through their service.
