Veterans Day a time to honor all veterans
To the Editor:
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday. Observed annually on Nov. 11, it honors military veterans. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all United States military veterans. Memorial Day honors those who died while in the military service.
On Friday, Nov. 11, at 8:30 a.m., at the Helen Baker Elementary School gym, there will be a short Veterans Day program for the first and second grades presented by the Glencoe V.F.W. Auxiliary to Post 5102. The program will be opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by “What is a Veteran,” “Respect for the Flag” and experiences shared by veterans present.
At 9 a.m to 10:40 a.m. in each classroom, awards will be presented to each kindergarten student for learning the Pledge of Allegiance, and a short program, “Who is a Veteran.”
At 1:30 p.m., there will be a program at St. Pius X School. At 2:30 p.m., First Lutheran kindergarten students will receive their awards for learning the Pledge of Allegiance. There will be a Veterans Day program for kindergarten and first- and second-grade students, opened with the Pledge.
The Pledge of Allegiance is spoken every morning in all three Glencoe elementary schools.
Too bad some of our professional sports players did not attend Glencoe kindergarten; maybe they would have learned respect for the flag.
