Vida Mae Kosek, 87, of Brownton

Vida Mae Kosek, 87, of Brownton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 15, 1 p.m., at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, with Pastor Jill Warner officiating. Interment was held in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. Special music was provided by Vida’s granddaughter, Brooke Kosek. Casket-bearers were her grandchildren, Lane Hacker, Katherine Hacker, Kayla Hacker, Brooke Kosek, and Dalton Kosek.
Vida Mae (Jerke) Kosek was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Brownton, the daughter of Gust and Katherine (Loncorich) Jerke. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at the Congregational Church in Stewart. Mrs. Kosek received her education in Brownton and graduated with the Brownton High School Class of 1948.
On July 9, 1956, Vida Mae was united in marriage to Herbert Kosek by the Justice of the Peace in Mason City, Iowa. They made their first home in Hutchinson, later moved to Stewart, and have lived the last 40 years on the family farm in rural Brownton.
Their marriage was blessed with three children, Diane, Leann, and Robert. Mrs. Kosek was employed with 3M in Hutchinson for 17 years, working in production. She owned and operated her ceramic shop in Stewart for many years, and made many beautiful pieces of artwork. Mrs. Kosek later worked at CSI in Hector until her retirement in 1993. In her spare time, she could be found sewing, gardening, or doing stencil painting. Mrs. Kosek loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends. She moved into the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in December of 2017.
Mrs. Kosek is survived by her husband, Herbert Kosek of Brownton; daughter, Leann Kosek-Hacker and Richard Hacker of Brownton; son, Robert Kosek and his wife, Paige, of Glencoe; grandchildren, Lane Hacker, Katherine Hacker, Kayla Hacker, Brooke Kosek and fiancée, Chad Thompson, and Dalton Kosek and special friend Hannah Wentzlaff; sister-in-law, Grace Kosek of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mrs. Kosek was preceded in death by her parents, Gust and Katherine Jerke, infant daughter, Diane; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Pauline Kosek, and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
