Villager Apartments still a topic for Silver Lake City Council

Landlords and rental property issues are not unique to Silver Lake. And change doesn’t come easily or quickly.
Over the past several weeks, the city of Silver Lake has been working with the owners of the eight-unit Villager Apartments on Grove Avenue.
The Villager is owned by Mike Jaunich and Tim Wabbe of ATB Properties, Delano.
The city has had Waste Management empty the dumpster twice. The cost of garbage removal, along with any other administrative fees, will be assessed to the property owners.
The fire chief, Dale Kosek, has also been working with the owners on a number of fire and life safety issues within the property.
The issues were brought to the attention of the city after an inspector for McLeod County performed a foster care inspection of the property.
The city gave the property owners until Friday, April 3 to address all the issues. Some concerns have been addressed, but not all.
Some of the violations identified in the first inspections, such as the combustibles under the stairway, furniture in the hallways, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, have been installed in all units.
