Viola Malinda Lena (Stern) Rannow, 92, of Glencoe, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 7, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Jan Heins was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Lord, Take My Hand” and “Let Me Be Yours Forever.”
Casket bearers were Mark Schuette, Kevin Schuette, Travis Rannow, Eric Rannow, Jason Bulau, Joshua Liestman, Brennan Schuette and Richard Jannusch.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Viola Malinda Lena (Stern) Rannow was born May 8, 1923, in Glencoe, the daughter of Robert and O’Della (Jenneke) Stern. She was baptized as an infant on May 20, 1923, by the Rev. R. Zwintscher at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, and was confirmed in her faith as a  youth on March 21, 1937, by the Rev. Alfred Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She received her education at First Evangelical Lutheran Church parochial school in Glencoe.
On Aug. 16, 1942, she was united in marriage to Herman A. Rannow by the Rev. Alfred Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They made their home on the family farm in rural Glencoe until 1984, when they moved to Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Judith, Bonita and Robert. They shared over 59 years of marriage before Mr. Rannow’s death on Sept. 10, 2001.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Rannow worked side by side with her husband on the farm, helping milk the cows, doing field work and tending a large vegetable garden. She also worked several years at Nature Fresh. She was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
Mrs. Rannow was a hard worker and enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved to play cards and bingo, cook, bake, watch her son at tractor pulls and visit with others. She also enjoyed the last year at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care. She treasured the time spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care on Nov. 3, 2014.
She is survived by her children, Judith (Ralph) Bulau of Glencoe, Bonita (Grant) Schuette of Brownton and Robert (Sandra) Rannow of Glencoe; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Emaline Ehoff of Little Falls and Mathilda Rannow of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and O’Della Stern; husband, Herman A. Rannow; sister, Luella Rannow; brother, Lawrence Stern; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
