Volleyball suffers first loss, rebounds for fourth win

It was an up-and-down pair of games for the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team. The Panthers suffered their first loss of the season against a main rival, but bounced back to claim victory over another neighboring squad and carry a 4-1 record into Thursday’s home match against Litchfield.

GSL saw its perfect start come to an end on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Hutchinson. The Panthers, who won each of their first three matches in three-game sweeps, had the tables turned on them in a Tigers sweep.

Hutchinson claimed the first two games of the night by identical 25-20 scores, then finished off their victory with a 25-16 win in game three to hand GSL its first loss of the season.

Middle hitter Maddie Monahan led the Panthers with six kills in the game, with outside hitter Taylor Novak logging five kills. Setter Layne Herrmann put up a team-high 16 assists; libero Emily Muetzel led the squad with 22 digs.
