Volleyball wins by sweep once again

Another day, another sweep for the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team. The Panthers swept their fifth-straight opponent in a three-set win against visiting Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Playing on “Dig Pink” cancer fundraiser night, the Panthers overwhelmed the Chargers. GSL got out to a big lead early and never looked back in winning 25-13, 25-14, 25-18.
In addition to a fifth-consecutive sweep, it was the Panthers’ sixth-straight win and 11th victory in the last 12 contests.
Hitters Kasidy Cacka and Rhyan Herrmann led the hosts with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Fellow front-rowers Mickalyn Frahm and McKenna Monahan had six and five kills, respectively.
Libero Maren Roepke had a big serving night with six aces to go with a team-high 21 digs, while setter Lexi Hansch had a team-best 30 set assists. Herrmann posted 11 digs with two aces.
The victory boosted GSL’s record to 15-7 overall this season and 5-1 in Wright County Conference West play. The Panthers entered this week tied with Annandale for second in the circuit standings, one game behind Watertown-Mayer.
GSL traveled to face the Royals, which entered the week at 19-6 overall and 6-0 in the WCC West, on Tuesday, Oct. 17, after the Chronicle went to press.
