Wallace B. Plath, 75, of Hutchinson

Wallace “Wally” Plath, 75, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 11, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Gerhard Bode officiating. Paul Otte was the organist. Soloist Chuck Thiel performed “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” and “How Great Thou Art.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket bearers were Dexter Klitzke, Donald Schroeder, Richard “Dick” White, David Kohls, Kevin Reinitz and Charlie Reiner. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Wallace “Wally” Benhard Plath was born Dec. 21, 1941, in Hutchinson, the son of Benhard and Martha “Tootsie” (Schroeder) Plath. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at West Lynn Church in Lynn Township. He received his education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School class of 1960.
He moved from the family farm into Hutchinson in 1968. He worked as a janitor at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson for 33 years and retired in 2010.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He loved watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins baseball team. He also enjoyed playing Schapfskopf, horseshoes and bingo.
When he needed assistance with his daily care, Mr. Plath became a resident of Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson on July 9.
He is survived by his uncles, Albin Plath and David Plath, both of Hutchinson; cousins; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Bernhard and Martha “Tootsie” Plath; and many aunts and uncles.
