A whole lot of turnover for GSL boys’ basketball team

There’s a whole lot that will be new about the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team this season.
After losing more than half of the varsity roster to graduation, it is a season of turnover for the Panthers.
“It’s going to be different this year,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “We don’t have eight seniors, we don’t have any two-year starters, and we are not real deep.”
Only three members of this year’s team return with much in the way of varsity experience. Not coincidentally, they are also the team’s three captains: guard Dane Schwirtz, as well as forwards Connor Kantack and Kyle Christensen.
Also returning to the varsity, figuring to fill bigger roles this season are forwards Gage Alsleben, Gabe Roepke and Korey Johnson. However, Johnson, who broke his hand in the section championship football game earlier this month, will not likely be available for a few weeks yet.
“We probably won’t see much of Korey before the Christmas Tournament,” DeCorsey said. “We really need him, though. It will be a big boost when he returns.”
