William ‘Bill’ Genz, 66, rural Winthrop

William “Bill” Genz, 66, of rural Winthrop, died Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his home in Bismarck Township, Sibley County.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 11, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando with the Rev. Aaron Albrecht officiating. Loretta Ahlbrecht was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Just as I Am” and “Amazing Grace.”
Casket bearers were Scott Katzenmeyer, Mark Katzenmeyer, Joel Hansch, Ron Bullert, Scott Schuette and Wade Dwinnell. Military honors were by Brownton American Legion Post 143. Interment was in the church cemetery.
William “Bill” Genz was born March 6, 1952, in Glencoe, to Elmer and Mavis (Wilhelm) Genz. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education in North Dakota and later received his GED. He furthered his education at Hutchinson Technical College, now Ridgewater College, for welding.
He entered active military service in the U.S. Army on Jan. 31, 1975, in Minneapolis, and served his country during the Vietnam War as an artillery surveyor. He received an honorable discharge on Jan. 24, 1977, at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and achieved the rank of E-4.
He was married to Marjorie Ehrke in 1979. They were blessed with three children, Darla, Darci and Darrin. He resided in North Dakota, and later moved to Bismarck Township, Sibley County.
Mr. Genz was employed at Delta Fabricating in Glencoe. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando. He also was a member of the Brownton Bruins organization.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to music and announcing baseball games. He also enjoyed being with his three cats, Mikey, Ruby and Tuesday. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
He would be saying to all of you right now, “As you were.” Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his children, Darla (Alex) Plevell of Little Falls, Darci (Mat) Jahnke of Little Falls and Darrin Genz (girlfriend Sarah) of Litchfield; grandchildren, Lennon Plevell, Wyatt Jahnke, Talon Jahnke, Jovie Jahnke and Mila Genz; siblings, Julie (Clyde) Zieman, Doug (Jody) Genz, Bryon (Carla) Genz, Dawn (Greg) Wickenhauser, Alan (Dawn) Genz, David (Heather) Genz and Kathy Servaty; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mavis Genz; and granddaughter, Ramsie Plevell.
