William ‘Billy’ Koester, 70, of Stewart

William “Billy” Frederick Koester, 70, of Stewart, formerly of Glencoe, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at his home.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 20, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating.
Rhonda Else and Abby McKimm were the pianists. Special music by Renae McKimm was “Children of the Heavenly Father.” Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”
Brian Witte was the urn bearer. Interment was in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
William “Billy” Koester was born June 12, 1944, in Glencoe, the son of William and Clara (Stuedemann) Koester. He was baptized as an infant on July 2, 1944, by the Rev. E.H. Streufert and was later confirmed in his faith on Aug. 18, 1964, by the Rev. R.F. Meissner, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He was educated at First Evangelical Lutheran School in Glencoe and Biscay Day Activity Center in Biscay.
He made his home in Glencoe and then moved to Stewart for the last 12 years, living with his foster parents, Jim and Trudy Zalomsky. He worked at the Adult Training and Habilitation Center in Hutchinson. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
He enjoyed trucks, animals, looking at pictures, working with his tools during carpenter projects, and listening to the “Menard’s Jingle.” He loved giving hugs. He had a gentle spirit and loved others. He treasured the time spent with his friends and family.
He is survived by his sisters and their husbands, Evon and Jim Draeger of Glencoe and Norma and Orland Witte of Brownton; foster parents, Jim and Trudy Zalomsky of Stewart; nieces and nephews, Kimberly (Charles) May of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Karen Palmateer of Burnsville, Rhonda (Robert) Else of Mankato, Renae (Michael) McKimm of Hutchinson and Brian (Jeri) Witte of Glencoe; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kendra May, Miles Palmateer, Paige Palmateer, Abby McKimm, Benjamin McKimm, Colin McKimm, Justin Else, Lauren Else, Andrew Else, Kate (Zach) Kuphal, Grace Witte and Claire Witte; foster brothers and sister, Kris, Nick and Miranda Zalomsky; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Koester.
