Would like to see rural residential recycling
To the Editor:
I was glad to see the editorial on recycling contamination in the paper recently.
My husband and I use the recycling bins in Helen Township. We feel pretty strongly about using resources wisely. Well over half of the waste we produce in our household is recyclable, and we put a fair amount of effort into cleaning and separating recycling from trash. Then we haul another carload of recycling to the township bins and we see the garbage that others have dumped in there, and it’s very discouraging. We often speculate as to whether the whole load will get thrown out because of all the contaminants.
We would love to see the county offer individual residential collection containers, as it would add some personal accountability to the process.
Thank you for highlighting the issue.
