Wright re-elected County Board chair on split vote
Paul Wright was re-elected as chair of the McLeod County Board of Commissioners on a 3-2 split vote at the organizational meeting Tuesday, Jan. 6.
New member Doug Krueger nominated Ron Shimanski as board chair. Sheldon Nies said he thought Wright should remain as board chair.
The normal practice is to have the vice chair take over as board chair, but Kermit Terlinder was not re-elected. Nies said by keeping Wright as chair it will keep some continuity.
Krueger said he liked the idea of rotating the chair position like in the past and would not mind Wright being the vice chair. However, he would like changing for the sake of change.
The vote for Shimanski as board chair was taken and failed by a 3-2 vote. Krueger and Shimanski were in favor and Wright, Nies and the other new member, Joe Nagel, voted against the nomination.
Nies then nominated Wright as chair with a second by Nagel. The motion passed by the same 3-2 split. Wright then nominated Nies as vice chair, which passed by unanimous vote.
