Ypma, retiring after 45 years, garnished friends, relationships
Worthington native Andy Ypma, 67, came to McLeod County in 1974 “knowing no one, but I’m leaving with a wealth of relationships and friends.”
Ypma retired July 9 as a probation officer after 45 years on the job – all in McLeod County.
“I loved working here,” Ypma said. “I’m grateful that I only made the front page once (for an award). I avoided the press. I didn’t want to be the focal point of attention.”
Rather, he said he wanted offenders he worked with “to live life to the max and be the man or woman they were meant to be. I always wanted to be a boots-on-the-ground guy.”
