Zickmond Chrast, 90, of Silver Lake

Zickmond Edward Chrast, 90, of Silver Lake, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, at Hutchinson Health.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, March 11, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. The Rev. Paul Schumacher was the celebrant.
 
Casket bearers were his grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Chrast, Nicholas, Jacob and Luke Weiers, Justin, Craig and Travis Scheffler and David Johnsen.
 
Interment was in Holy Family Cemetery.
 
Zickmond Edward Chrast, the son of Rudolph and Ludmilla (Prokop) Chrast, was born on the family farm north of Silver Lake on April 9, 1925. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
 
On June 5, 1951, Zickmond Chrast and Theresa Kalitowski were united in holy matrimony at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with five children, Gene, Terry, Debra and twins Marilyn and Marlyce. The couple would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in June.
 
Mr. Chrast lived his entire life on the family farm and engaged in dairy farming as well as raising hogs, beef and poultry. After retiring from dairy farming in 1984, he continued to crop farm, raising corn and soybeans up to last summer. He also enjoyed tending to his garden and was very proud of his harvest of vegetables.
 
In his free time, he enjoyed listening to old-time music, playing his concertina and harmonica, going on casino and gambling trips, as well as visiting with family and friends. He loved his family dearly and welcomed each new grandchild and great-grandchild who was born into his family.
 
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; sons, Gene (Grace) Chrast of Dassel and Terry Chrast of Silver Lake; daughters, Debra (Rodney Weiers of Silver Lake, Marilyn (Hilary) Scheffler of Lonsdale and Marlyce (Paul) Johnsen of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren, Matthew (Melanie) Chrast, Andrew (Robyn) Chrast, Jennifer (Terry) Heidecker, Anita (Tim) Lundquist, Nicolas (Stephany) Weiers, Jake (Nikki) Weiers, Rose Weiers, Bridget Weiers, Luke Weiers, Justin Scheffler, Craig Scheffler, Travis (Katie) Scheffler, Sarah (Mark) Schwartz, Kim (Jayce) Howe and David Johnsen; 13 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Seth Chrast, Edward and Benjamin Chrast, Kendall and Isaac Heidecker, Zack and Willa Lundquist, Anthony and Lariah Weiers, Lydia Schwartz, and Brielle and Lauren Howe; a sister, Lillian Novak; and many nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Ludmilla Chrast; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen and Clara Kalitowski; brothers, Ralph (Clara) Chrast, Louis (Helen) Chrast, twin brothers Frank and William Chrast, Emil (Dona) Chrast and Stanley (Delores Chrast; brother-in-law, Dominic Novak; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Veronica and Ron Jilek.
