Local growers honor own at annual banquet
 |  | | Francis Svoboda, left, president of the McLeod County Corn & Soybean Growers Association, surprised emcee Nathan Winter with the 2011 Friend of Agriculture Award Saturday night at the Pla-Mor Ballroom. Winter is a University of Minnesota Extension educator and has emceed the last several association banquets. | The 28th annual banquet of the McLeod County Corn & Soybean Growers Association, also marked the 50th anniversary of the Soybean Growers Association, according to Francis Svoboda, president of the county association.
It also was a time for the local growers to honor some of their own members and activities as well as talk with local ag dealers and suppliers.

| | Park board recommends new shelter, plus addition | After a two-hour meeting Jan. 25 between Glencoe City Council members and member of city's parks board, the park board decided to concentrate on replacing Oak Leaf Park Shelter No. 2 and put its long-range plans on hold for now.
The joint meeting agenda included not only replacement of the biggest shelter house, but a possible campground master plan at Oak Leaf Park as well as upgrades to the Aquatics Center.
