Funeral services for Ronald Vernon Jungclaus, 62, of Glencoe, were held Wednesday, July 9, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glencoe. The Rev. Linzy Collins Jr. officiated.
Mr. Jungclaus died peacefully at home on July 5, 2014, with loved ones by his side following a two-year cancer illness.
The organist was Dave Johnson, and the congregational hymn was “Fairest Lord Jesus.” The Rev. Collins, soloist, sang “Goin’ Home,” “The Lord’s Prayer,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Jesus Loves Me.”
Mr. Jungclaus was laid to rest with full military honors by Glencoe VFW Post 5102 following the service at the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matthew Dahlke, Brandon Sell, Hunter Dahlke, Al Witthus, Lyle Albrecht, Myron Dahlke and Joseph Neubauer.
Mr. Jungclaus was born Aug. 21, 1951, to Vernon and Marilou (Peterson) Jungclaus of Glencoe. He was baptized as an infant on Sept. 23, 1951, by the Rev. Merton McKendry and confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 11, 1965, by the Rev. Donald Chapman, both at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glencoe.
He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1969 and enlisted in the U.S. Army thereafter. He served with the Army from Nov. 5, 1969, and received an honorable discharge on Aug. 17, 1971, following his involvement in the Vietnam War, where he was a member of the infantry.
He furthered his education by attending St. Cloud State University for two years.
Mr. Jungclaus made his home in Sumter. In 1975, he began his career with the Department of Agriculture until he retired in 2005, 30 years and one day after he began.
Mr. Jungclaus was proud of his monthly broadcasts with co-host Joe Neubauer on KDUZ’s “Ron & Joe Show.” After his retirement, Mr. Jungclaus’ love of agriculture led him to work for Rural Community Insurance Services as a crop insurance adjuster until 2012, when he was forced to resign due to his health.
When he was not enjoying his grandchildren and spending time with close family and friends, he filled it with his love of hunting, raising horses and training hunting dogs.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather (Brandon) Sell and their two sons, Ryler and Brenek, of Lake City; special nephew, Matthew (Amy) Dahlke and their three sons, Hunter, Carson and Cody, of Bigfork; two sisters, Marcia Wendorff and special friend, Mac Mckenzie, of Turtle River, and Ellen Jungclaus of Mankato; 10 nephews and nieces; and other relatives and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Vernon and Marilou Jungclaus; sister, Julie (Jungclaus) Dahlke; and brother, Peter Jungclaus.
