Jerry James Jerabek, 93, of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long-Term Care.
Funeral Services were held Monday, Sept. 15, at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Katherine Rood officiating.
Twyla Kirkeby was the organist. Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Old Rugged Cross” and “Rock of Ages.”
Military honors were by Glencoe American Legion Post 95. Pallbearers were Lowell Brecht, Bernard Brecht, Steven Brecht, Todd Ide, Scott Jerabek and Shannon Jerabek.
Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Jerry James Jerabek was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Hutchinson, the son of Charlie and Elsie (Bell) Jerabek. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith on May 19, 1946, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Paul. He attended District 44 School in Hutchinson until the eighth grade, and then attended the University of Minnesota Farm School, graduating in March 1939.
On Oct. 11, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Brecht in St. Paul. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Alan and Susan. Mr. Jerabek mainly grew up in the McLeod County area and moved to Lester Prairie. He and his wife shared 63 years of marriage until Dorothy Jerabek’s death on June 4, 2011.
Mr. Jerabek entered active military service in the U.S. Army on Nov. 14, 1942. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 23, 1945. He had numerous jobs over the years, mainly as a John Deere tractor mechanic at Larson Implement in Stewart, and as a welder, tool and die maker and farmer. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
Mr. Jerabek was a kind man who loved people and was a friend to many. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making baptism boxes for people at his church, along with helping with church remodeling. He also enjoyed flowers and gardening. He loved the time spent with his family and friends.
When he came to need assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long-Term Care on Aug. 18, 2012.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Alan and Sandy Jerabek of Hutchinson and Susan and Wallace Ide of Lester Prairie; grandchildren, Scott (Sally) Jerabek, Tammy (Kevin) Mathews, Todd Ide, Sherry (Daryl) Ekstrom, Tricia (Andy) Gueningsman, Stacey Harpel (special friend Mike) and Shannon (wife Michele Barley) Jerabek; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Stella Jane Rauch and Ellen Brecht; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy Jerabek.
