To the Editor:
I felt it was necessary to write this letter to respond to the article in last week’s paper regarding the County Board. It stated there was a proposal to place a veterans memorial on the courthouse property in Glencoe.
I would like to clarify that no one from the Glencoe Area Veterans Memorial Committee made any request for that property. Our committee was contacted by a couple of local veterans who asked why we didn’t consider the courthouse property. Those veterans were also led to believe this courthouse property was going to be used for a park area, which is not the case. As a courtesy to them, we followed up with the commissioners to see what plans were in place.
I want to be clear that our committee has not changed our plans. We are happy with where our memorial will be placed, on the northwest corner of the City Center grounds facing 12th Street. We are very appreciative of the support we have from the City Center Board and the city of Glencoe.
