Evangeline “Vangie” Elsie (Lange) Neuhaus, 84, of Glencoe, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 28, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist Christian Nielsen sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Amazing Grace.”
Pallbearers were Barrett Neuhaus, David Brost, Justin Lorence, Mitch Boswell, Tony Hanson and Steve Mlejnek. Interment was in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Glencoe.
Evangeline “Vangie” Elsie (Lange) Neuhaus was born March 21, 1930, in Glencoe, the daughter of William and Ella (Milbrand) Lange Jr. She was baptized as an infant on April 6, 1930, by the Rev. Duesterhoeft, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 18, 1943, by the Rev. H.H. Schaller, both at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, Glencoe. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:5: “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust in Him and He shall bring it to pass.” She received her education at District 45 country school, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran parochial school and Glencoe High School.
On Dec. 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Bernhard “Ben” F. Neuhaus by the Rev. H.H. Schaller at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township. The couple made their home in Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with four children, Bernie, Larry, Betty and Patti. The couple shared almost 62 years of marriage before Mr. Neuhaus’ death on Dec. 9, 2010.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Neuhaus worked at Gavin Law Office in Glencoe as a legal assistant for over 40 years, starting on Feb. 16, 1961. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where she also was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). She also volunteered at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Mrs. Neuhaus enjoyed sewing, gardening, boating, card playing and traveling. She treasured the time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Bernie and Julie Neuhaus of Glencoe, Larry and Colleen Neuhaus of Cosmos, Betty and Mark Brost of North Oaks and Patti and Brian Lorence of Hudson, Wis.; grandchildren, Barrett (Julie) Neuhaus of Eau Claire, Wis., Nicole (Mitch) Boswell of Elk River, Melissa (Steve) Mlejnek of Belle Plaine, Mariah (Tony) Hanson of Alexandria, David Brost of St. Paul, Cassandra Brost of North Oaks, Justin (Cassie) Lorence of Bloomington, Krystal Lorence of St. Paula and Jenna Lorence of Hudson, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Ethan Mlejnek, Steven Mlejnek, Luke Mlejnek, Grace Boswell, Noah Boswell, Erica Neuhaus, Eden Hanson, Elise Hanson and Will Lorence; brothers and their wives, Earl and Carolyn Lange and Ernie and JoAnn Lange, all of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ella Lange Jr.; and husband, Bernhard “Ben” Neuhaus.
