The Emanuel/First Lutheran eighth-grade girls’ basketball team is returning to the Lutheran National Tournament next week for the third consecutive season.
However, this year, the Raiders will be doing so as Minnesota state champions for the very first time.
“It’s pretty exciting,” assistant coach Kathy M. Mackenthun said. “This was a goal of ours at the start of the season.”
Emanuel/First Lutheran has yet to be defeated this season and brings a 26-0 record into the 69th-annual tournament, scheduled to be played March 19-22 at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind.
The Raiders clinched the state title by winning the Minnesota State Lutheran Girls Basketball Tournament on March 1.
