Dorothy “Dottie” Lilienthal, 91, of Glencoe, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 11, at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The Rev. Katherine Rood officiated, and Peggy Hatlestad was the organist. Congregational hymns were “I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry,” “Beautiful Savior,” “Blessed Assurance” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Interment was in the First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
Dorothy “Dottie” Beth (Pofahl) Lilienthal was born April 7, 1924, in Glencoe. She was the daughter of Raymond and Augusta (Seltz) Pofahl. She was baptized as an infant on April 10, 1924, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 12, 1938, by the Rev. E. Kolbe, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She received her education in Glencoe, graduating from the Stevens Seminary High School with the class of 1943. She furthered her education by attending trade school.
On Feb. 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wilbert Lilienthal by the Rev. Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The couple made their home in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with five children, William, James, Mary, Robert and Jane. Dottie and Will Lilienthal shared over 55 years of marriage before Mr. Lilienthal’s death on July 16, 2001.
Mrs. Lilienthal was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. When asked her age, she was forever “39.” Her greatest love was her family and close friends. She had a special way of showing them how much she cared. She was a loving caregiver in every sense of the word. She also enjoyed party planning, dancing, golfing and socializing with her bridge club and the dice ladies group.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Cindy) Lilienthal of Cushing, Mary Altmeyer of Indianapolis, Ind., Robert Lilienthal of Gaylord and Jane Lilienthal of Glencoe; grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Hirner of Shorewood, Brett Lilienthal of Brooklyn Park, Michael Altmeyer of Indianapolis, Holly (Jon) Durre of Robbinsdale, Kara Lilienthal of Eden Prairie and Paul (Melissa) Lilienthal of Waconia; great-grandchildren, Lauren Lilienthal, Estelle Durre, Ava Goalen, Ella Lilienthal, Mikayla Altmeyer and Nicolas Hirner; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Augusta Pofahl; husband, Wilbert Lilienthal; son, William Lilienthal; sister, Eunice Altman; and brother, Donald Pofahl.
