Victor William Donnay, 90, of Faribault, formerly of Glencoe, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at District One Hospital in Faribault.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, May 29, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe. The Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiated. Sue Mielke was the organist and Shari Templin was the song leader. Musical selections were “Be Not Afraid,” “Gift of Finest Wealth,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Ave Maria” and “How Great Thou Art.
Casket bearers were David Donnay, Drew Donnay, Brent Haekenkamp, Alex Jagiela, Mark Sagedahl and Pat Maresh. Interment was in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Victor William Donnay was born June 19, 1924, in Glencoe, the son of Francis H. and Mayme (Smith) Donnay. He was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He attended parochial school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Glencoe through the eighth grade.
On Feb. 16, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Mazal at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Michael, Paul, Mark, Vicki, Anita and Becky. The couple shared over 63 years of marriage.
In addition to being a loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Donnay farmed and worked at Glencoe Manufacturing and Glencoe Butter and Produce in Glencoe. He was a member of the Church of St. Pius X, where he served as the groundskeeper for the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery for 33 years.
Mr. Donnay led an active life. He enjoyed bicycling, walking, playing Yahtzee and Rummy, and watching sports, especially the Twins, Vikings and wrestling. He cherished the time he spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Donnay of Faribault; children, Michael (Robyn) Donnay of Alexandria, Paul (Sharon) Donnay of Lafay-ette, Mark (Carol) Donnay of Norwood Young America, Vicki (Kevin) Haekenkamp of Faribault and Becky (Mark) Jagiela of Coon Rapids; 11 grandchildren, Drew Donnay, Mallory (Mark) Sagedahl, David Donnay, Melissa (Adam) Guetzkow, Stacy (Brian) Johnson, Brandon Donnay, Chad Donnay, Brent (Samantha) Haekenkamp, Candis Haekenkamp, Alex Jagiela and Abby Jagiela; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Lorraine (Clarence) Seeman of Waconia and Carol (Ronnie) Marsh of Glencoe; brother-in-law, Stanley J. (Marlene) Mazal of Brooklyn Park; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mayme Donnay; daughter, Anita Donnay; brothers, Sylvester Donnay and Gerald Donnay; sister, Betty Harens; brother-in-law, Bill Harens; and sister-in-law, Delores Donnay.
