The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board approved a revision to the 2015-2016 school year calendar at its meeting Monday night. The first day of school will be Aug. 31 and the last day for students will be May 20. Graduation will also be held on May 20.
The board received special approval from the Minnesota Department of Education to start before Labor Day because of the construction scheduled to begin in spring of 2016.
Also for the 2015-2016 school year, the board approved an increase to meal prices and activity fees.
The new meal prices will be $2.40 for elementary students, $2.60 for high school students and $3.60 for adults. The board approved the increase in order to comply with changes in requirements for the National School Lunch Program. The milk prices will not increase and free breakfast will continue.
The activity fees have been increased by $10. This is the first time the fees have been increased since 2007.
