Doris Ann (née Engelke) Huss died at St. Therese Oxbow Lake, Brooklyn Park on June 20, 2015. She was 82 years of age.
She was born Dec. 22, 1932, to Henry and Emma Engelke. She was born at home and was the third of six children. She attended a country school for first through third grades, Emanuel Lutheran School for fourth through eighth grade, and then Glencoe High School for ninth through 12th grade. She graduated from the Unversity of Minnesota, School of Nursing, as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in 1952.
She met Rodney Trongard at the University of Minnesota while caring for him after a basketball-related knee injury. They were married June 8, 1952, and had two children, Pamela and Daniel. Doris and Rodney remained friends throughout their lives. She married Richard Huss in 1966, and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1976. She worked as a nurse from 1965 to 1976 at Mercy and United hospitals in Coon Rapids and Fridley, respectively, and from 1976 to 1997 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz. She returned to Minnesota in April 2010 and dedicated her remaining time to family and friends locally, and at St. Therese where she lived, as well as to her church, most specifically the Ruth Circle.
Mrs. Huss was a patient, kind and supportive person with a passion for music, baking, crafting and helping others even though she, herself, was not always well. She was an incredible pianist and won many contests in her younger years, and taught piano lessons to many throughout her life. Loving the Lord was first and foremost in her life, closely followed by loving and supporting her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Joseph Strauss of Blaine; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Patti Lynn Trongard of Golden Valley; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerry and Marci Engelke and Lanny and Jenny Engelke; her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Norm Anderson; two grandsons and their wives, Ryan and Kelly Trongard and Trevor and Laura Trongard; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kayla and James; and a loving extended family, Michael and Lora Strauss and family, Shannon and Doug Peyer and family, and Nicole Weaver and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gordon Engelke; and her husbands, Rodney and Richard.
The funeral will be Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m., at Family of God Lutheran Church, 8625 Zane Ave. N, Brooklyn Park, followed by interment at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg at 3 p.m. Flowers are welcome; however, donations to St. Therese, Oxbow Lake in Brooklyn Park, would be much appreciated as well.
