The Plato Blue Jays are back in the Region 7C Tournament following last week’s two-game sweep of Young America in the Crow River Valley League (CRVL) playoffs.
However, the Blue Jays received a little favor from Cologne, who knocked Brownton out of postseason contention via a 2-1 series upset of the Bruins.
Brownton’s loss was Plato’s gain, as the Blue Jays — seeded third among CRVL South teams entering last week’s playoffs — inherited the Bruins’ No. 2 seed following their rivals’ elimination.
“For Cologne to have won that series was huge for us,” Plato manager Adam Dammann said. “We like where we are sitting in the bracket with that two seed as opposed to the three we would have had if Brownton had won.”
Plato held up its end of the bargain to eventually gain the No. 2 slot by taking both games from Young America. However, the Cardinals did not make it easy on the birds of a similar feather.
