The Glencoe Brewers season came to an end over the weekend with back-to-back losses in the Region 7C Tournament in Green Isle. The Brewers finished the season with a 16-17 overall record and were 11-9 in the Crow River Valley League.
“Overall we were pleased with the season. We won more league games than we have in the past three seasons, and once again we were in the region tournament,” manager Stephen Wiblemo said. “I think any time you are two wins from state you did something right.”
Glencoe’s regional debut was pushed back a night due to heavy rains on Thursday, Aug. 6, with the Brewers taking on tournament host Green Isle under sunny skies on Friday night instead. It was Glencoe’s second trip in two weeks to Irish Yard, with the Irish eking out a 3-2 win on July 25.
Derek Weber took to the Irish Yard mound with the start this time for the Brewers, a team fired up to finally notch an upset victory over a side that had so narrowly defeated them during the 2015 regular season as well as in the 2014 regional.
Yet it took just two innings for the Irish to plate as many runs as they did in the entire July 25 contest, as they got on the board with a trio of two out runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
