The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team claimed a 2-2 season-opening tie against Spectrum in Elk River on Monday, Aug. 31, twice rallying from deficits to forge the draw.
“Great battle,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “We passed up a few opportunities to get ahead, but, early game jitters.”
Down six players due to injuries and circumstances, GSL trailed 1-0 at halftime. However, Ashlyn Stuewe knotted the game after the break on a goal set up on fellow midfielder Jordan Breidenbach’s assisting cross pass.
Spectrum again took the lead at 2-1, before midfielder Emily Thalmann threaded a pass to Emily Clouse that the forward one-timed into the net to knot the count at 2-2.
