A familiar face at Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) Schools is taking on a new role. Former Response to Intervention (RTI) teacher Joy Freitag will now serve as the assistant principal at Lakeside Elementary.
Freitag was born in Norwood Young America but considers herself to be from “a little bit of everywhere.” As the daughter of a school administrator, she moved around Minnesota a lot as a child.
Now, she’s happy to be settled in Glencoe, working for the same district where her two kids attend school.
“I’m just thrilled to be where I’m at,” she said. “This was my golden egg that I wanted to get to for a while to be steady.”
Before her time at GSL, Freitag taught in the Prior Lake School District for 10 years. It was there that she started the process to get her administrative license and specialist degree. After a few years with a better commute teaching in Glencoe, she is now in the position she always planned on having.
“It’s just kind of been a lifelong goal,” she said. “I knew that this was where I was going to be.”
Freitag said she’s most excited for the role she now has in the community that she works and lives in.
“To raise our children and live in the community, work in the community and really help the school district that my own children are a part of, I’m really excited about that,” she said.
