The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team snagged a tie in its Homecoming game, but was unable to add to its win tally last week. Entering the final four-game stretch of the regular season, including a home game against Hutchinson that was played on Tuesday after the Chronicle went to press, the Panthers held a 1-6-3 record.
Down 1-0 to Rockford on Tuesday, Sept. 22, midfielder Emily Thalmann corralled a give-and-go pass from defender Abril Iracheta and planted the ball in the back of the net to knot the score 1-all.
However, despite a series of opportunities through the second half and overtime, GSL settled for the tie – with coach Zach Otto-Fisher crediting his backline and goalie Destiney Exsted.
“I thought some of the girls played sluggish,” he said. “Opposite of that though, I thought our defense and goal keeping rocked. They came up with some huge stops.”
Following the Homecoming draw, the Panthers headed back out on the road on Thursday, Sept. 24, suffering a 6-0 loss at Delano.
GSL has one home game remaining this regular season, with the Panthers hosting New Ulm on next Monday.
