They wanted no part of sharing the Wright County Conference West championship, and thanks to a clutch performance in their regular-season finale, members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team have the crown all to themselves.
The Panthers assured themselves sole possession of the WCC West title by completing a blemishless conference season in a four-game match victory at Annandale on Thursday, Oct. 22. GSL finished with a perfect 7-0 conference record, one game better than New London-Spicer.
“This group is a phenomenal group,” coach Lori Schwirtz said. “They are all very hard workers that want to become better everyday.”
GSL led the WCC West wire-to-wire and had defeated eventual conference runner-up NL-S in three games back on Sept. 22. However, due to the circuit not recognizing head-to-head results as a tiebreaker, the Panthers had to win at Annandale to assure there spoils would not be shared with the Wildcats.
“The conference title is super important to us,” said middle hitter Erika Ribar, who is one of five seniors on this year’s squad.
