To the Editor:
The final Glencoe Community Blood Drive for 2015 will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Glencoe Community Center Ballroom.
The American Red Cross has set our goal for this drive at 131 units. Please consider helping us meet that goal.
As you read this, it will be only two weeks until the blood drive. The volunteer callers will be contacting potential donors during the next week. If you want to schedule an appointment to donate, please contact our scheduling coordinator, Nelda Klaustermeier, at 320-864-3475 and fill one of the empty slots remaining. We remind and ask those who have made their appointments to keep their appointments. I would love to lower the percentage of “no-shows” at our drives and blow the donation numbers off the chart.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, making the need for blood constant. Nov. 18 is your opportunity to come together with other members of the community to support the critical work of the Red Cross. Holiday plans and travel often keep donors from donating, but hospital patients don’t get a holiday from needing blood and platelets. So your donation during this time of year is very important to the Red Cross and to the recipients. Your one donation can help save up to three lives. Every pint counts. Together, we can help ensure no one is alone when the unexpected happens and bring hope to patients in need.
Thanksgiving is the season we remember the blessings in our lives that we take for granted and which usually go unnoticed: the sun by day, the stars and moon by night, eyes that see, arms to hug, legs to walk, ears to hear, a home, food to eat and share, clothes, health, family, friends; the list is endless. Take one of the unnoticed blessings you have — the gift of life — and pay it forward. Donate blood. You can be assured that recipients and their families will be very blessed and thankful for your gift.
