It was an occasion that felt like the start of a wonderful new tradition as the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team hosted Hutchinson in a rivalry game to open the season on the night after Thanksgiving.
“It was a really fun atmosphere and I felt it was also a pretty good game,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said.
While the Class AA Panthers had their moments against their well-regarded opponents from Class AAA, it was the Tigers that took away the win by a score of 67-56.
“I’m not discouraged by the outcome,” Otto-Fisher said. “I told the girls that we can fix everything that wasn’t right from that game.”
Forward Maddy Kalenberg scored the Panthers’ first points of the season just 12 seconds into the contest, but Hutchinson led for the majority of the first half despite star Tigers guard Tori Wortz being benched with three early fouls.
