Berdina Emma Alma (Sell) Luehring, 98, of Glencoe, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 20, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night, Holy Night.”
Casket bearers were Mrs. Luehring’s grandchildren. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Berdina Emma Alma (Sell) Luehring was born May 4, 1917, in Round Grove Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Carl A. and Dorothea (Frauendienst) Sell. She was baptized as an infant on May 27, 1919, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 29, 1931, both by the Rev. C.H. Kowalske, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stewart. She received her education through the eighth grade at a country school near Stewart.
On April 16, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Henry Luehring by the Rev. C.H. Kowalske at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stewart. The couple made their home on a farm in Moltke Township, Sibley County, until 1966, when they retired from the farm and moved to Glencoe. They were blessed with three children, Wayne, Arlys and Sandra. They shared over 63 years of marriage before Mr. Luehring’s death on Nov. 2, 2000.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Luehring helped her husband on the farm. She also worked at the Glencoe hospital, Telex and Green Giant, all in Glencoe. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township before joining First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and baking. She cherished the time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Arlys (Dennis) Harms of Gibbon and Sandra Bruckschen of Madeira Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lena Sell of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl A. and Dorothea Sell; husband, John Luehring; son, Wayne Luehring; four brothers; and four sisters.
