Edwin August Becker, 96, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 4, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn with the Rev. Bradley Danielson officiating. Brenda Danielson was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “On Eagle’s Wings” and “How Great Thou Art.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “Beautiful Savior.”
Honorary casket bearers were Mr. Becker’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casket bearers were Jeff Becker, Joe Becker, Roger Becker, Veryl Becker, Les Karl and Dale Hoops.
Interment was in High Island Cemetery in New Auburn.
Edwin August Becker was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Glencoe, the son of Charley and Alvina (Alsleben) Becker. He was baptized as an infant on Sept. 28, 1919, by the Rev. George Diemer, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 9, 1933, by the Rev. Hans Nerner, both at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn. He attended country school.
On Sept. 21, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Lydia Alice Wendlandt by the Rev. Walter Diemer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township. The couple made their home on the Becker family farm from 1941 to 1990, when they moved to Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Karen, Errol and Eldon. They shared over 70 years of marriage until Mrs. Becker’s death on Aug. 21, 2012.
Mr. Becker was a farmer and really enjoyed the animals. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn, where he served on the church council. He also was a member of the New Auburn Senior Citizens and volunteered at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care with bingo.
Mr. Becker enjoyed being on the farm, fishing, hunting and playing cards, especially sheephead. He cherished the time spent with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Karen (Willard) Karl of Stewart, Errol Becker of Glencoe and Eldon (Bev) Becker of Glencoe; grandchildren, Holly (Steven) Kanduth of Norwood Young America, Heidi Klockmann of Brownton, Penny (Scott) Gildea of Glencoe, Paul (Wanda) Becker of Glencoe, Pam Becker and her fiancé, Ted Collins, of Glencoe; Jeff (Kim) Becker of Gaylord and Joe (Toni) Becker of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Crystal, Chelsea and Courtney Kanduth, Stephanie and Mitchel Klockmann, Jordan Gildea and his fianceé, Brittany Snyder, Ashley Becker and her fiancé, Dillion Jobe, Rebecca (Colt) Miller, Brandon Becker and Abby Becker and her special friend, Connor Tollefson; stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren, Tim, Kathy, Bryce and Kendra Karl, Leslie, Linda, Larissa, Lee and Lane Karl, and Kevin, Jody, Trey, Trent and Tia Weispfenning; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Wendlandt of Glencoe and LaVerna (Art) Just of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Alvina Becker; wife, Dorothy Becker; daughter-in-law, Pat Becker; son-in-law, Gerald Kujas; granddaughter’s husband, Marty Klockmann; and siblings and their spouses, Art and Gladys Becker, Herb and Luella Becker and Esther and Leonard Grenke.
