Four accidents on state highways in the area were reported within a five-day time span this past week.
On Wednesday, Jan. 20, icy roads contributed to a head-on crash on Highway 7, east of Silver Lake, at about 9:35 a.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Donna I. Nardor, 55, of San Leandro, California, was eastbound on Highway 7 in a 2000 Toyota when her vehicle slid on the ice roadway and into the path of a westbound Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Tara Boehlke, 26, of Winsted.
The Toyota flipped end over end, and the Pontiac came to rest in a ditch.
Nardor was flown to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with serious injuries. Boehlke was taken to the Hutchinson hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers were belted and the air bags in each vehicle deployed.
Assisting at the accident were the Silver Lake Fire Department, Silver Lake Ambulance, Hutchinson Ambulance and the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, Jan. 21, at 12:05 a.m., a report was received of a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 22 near Shilling Lake Road, rural New Auburn, in Sibley County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Mitchell J. Schultz, 31, of Glencoe, was northbound on Highway 22 when his 2003 Infiniti I35 crossed the centerline, was over-corrected, and rolled several times into the east ditch. The vehicle came to rest on its top.
Schultz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially out of the car, with his legs pinned beneath it. He was taken to the Glencoe hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
