To the Editor:
What is the agenda?
I was amazed to see the outright lack of due process or common sense when it comes to the process of pushing through the expansion of paved bike trails in District 1.
We have a commissioner from District 4, Sheldon Nies, choosing a committee member who lives in commissioner District 1 for the McLeod County Trails Committee to represent his District 4. Anybody else see a conflict here? Would that not fall to Commissioner Ron Shimanski to select for his own District 1?
When we have a stacked committee overseeing the spending of very large chunks of public money (money from the people) on a project that has arguably very limited utility or benefit to the people of this district, what could go wrong?
As a resident of Bergen Township, with the Dakota line running almost through my back yard (back five), I see no real benefit to myself or any of my neighbors with the very expensive paving of this trail. I cannot believe that there is not some other projects that would better facilitate the advancement of infrastructure of the district and county for greater commercial benefit year round of a larger number of residents of this area, for this kind of expense. Does someone have any other agenda here?
