Once again showing its penchant for a nice rally, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team battled back from an early 9-0 deficit to defeat host Litchfield 50-42 on Thursday, Feb. 4.
The Panthers were in danger of trailing by double digits less than four minutes into the game as the Dragons took full advantage of some early GSL moppishness.
“We just made bad decisions at the start of the game,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “We had three turnovers on our first four possessions and then we’re chasing their shooters around. It was just jitters. They came out really wanting to kick our butt and we weren’t quite ready for it at the start.”
However, the visitors were quick to turn the tide on their hosts, using a suffocating defensive press to squelch the Dragon fire and climbed back into the contest.
“It was phenomenal,” Otto-Fisher said of his team’s press. “We didn’t really do anything special, either. Just forced them to make bad passes. That got us back in the game.”
