Township annual meetings were held throughout Minnesota on Tuesday, March 8. In some townships, annual elections for a supervisor and a clerk also were held. Other townships schedule their elections with the fall general election. Following is a round-up of the annual meetings and elections:
• Acoma Township — Twenty-seven residents attended the annual meeting and selected Tom Dahl as the moderator. The 2017 levy was set at $258,000. Residents passed one resolution, “Resolution to suspend McLeod County trail committee.” Chairperson Lynn Splittberger said the township board of supervisors will formally adopt the resolution at its April meeting, because one supervisor was absent at the annual meeting.
• Bergen Township — Bergen Township has established a new website for its residents, www.bergentownship.com [1]. There was discussion of selling the township road grader and truck, and contracting for road services. There also was discussion regarding the possible remodeling of and adding on to the present town hall. The 2017 levy was set, with $130,000 dedicated to the road and bridge fund, $33,000 to the general fund and $25,000 for fire protection.
• Collins Township — Voters elected a new supervisor and a new clerk. Grant Hatten was elected the supervisor on a write-in vote, defeating incumbent supervisor Jim Friedrichs, who served the township for 39 years. Gary Asche is the new clerk; incumbent Alan Fredrickson chose not to seek re-election. The levy was set in the amount of $143,000. Guests at the meeting were McLeod County Commissioner Paul Wright, Brownton Fire Chief Chris Hansch, and Stewart Assistant Fire Chief Jason Carter.
