Vivian Ortloff
Vivian Marion (Bachmann) Ortloff, 83, of Glencoe, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 3, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Ronald Mathison officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist Justin Rierson sang “In the Garden.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket bearers were Steve Richer, Jonathan Richer, Loren Busse, Dan Pagel, Nick Pagel and Tim Coker.
Interment was in High Island Cemetery in New Auburn.
Vivian Marion (Bachmann) Ortloff was born Dec. 3, 1932, in Arlington, the daughter of Herman and Alma (Voight) Bachmann. She was baptized as an infant on Dec. 18, 1932, by the Rev. R. Heidmann, and confirmed in her faith as a youth by the Rev. John G. Bradtke, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. She received her education by attending District 15 country school in Arlington Township, St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial School in Arlington, and graduated with the Arlington High School class of 1950.
On Dec. 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ronald Ortloff by the Rev. John G. Bradtke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Arlington. They made their home on the farm near Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with two children, Barbara and Kevin. The couple shared over 43 years of marriage before Mr. Ortloff’s death on June 22, 1997.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Ortloff worked at Telex, the Glencoe Advertiser and Seneca. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
Mrs. Ortloff loved the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening and had many beautiful flower beds at her home. She loved to embroider, read, go for walks, and was an avid bowler. She also loved animals and never found a stray she didn’t adopt. She treasured the time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (David) Coker of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Melissa (Anthony) Atemon, Ashley (Fernando) Alvarez, Christopher Coker and Timothy (Taylor) Coker; great-grandchildren, Alito and Mati Alvarez and baby boy AJ on the way; sister-in-law, Arlene (Ken) Fabel of Green Isle; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Alma Bachmann; husband, Ronald Ortloff; son, Kevin Ortloff; and siblings, Gerald Bachmann and two infant brothers.
