The McLeod County Planning Advisory Commission gave its nod of approval to three mining conditional use permits at its Wednesday, April 27 meeting.
Public hearings were held on each application, and one drew more comment than the others.
Jay Rickert of Rickert Excavating, Inc., asked for mining conditional use permit to take sand from property in Sumter Township, located near 65th Street and Major Avenue.
Larry Gasow, county zoning administrator, said Rickert’s was planning to re-open the former Reid’s Pit.
Neighbor Veryl Becker expressed concern about the mining taking out Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM) land and destroying trees.
