To the Editor:
General election candidates running for McLeod County commissioner will be invited to a question-and-answer forum Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., at the Glencoe City Center South Ballroom, 1107 11th St. E, Glencoe.
Commissioner District 3:
This district includes the townships of Collins, Lynn, Penn and Round Grove, and the cities of Hutchinson Precinct 3 and Stewart. The last time this seat was contested was in 2008 when Commissioner Grant Knutson retired. Kevin Masrud, Rob Raiche and Paul Wright are competing in the primary election for this position. After the primary, only the top two contenders will be on the November ballot.
Commissioner District 4:
District 4 encompasses the townships of Hassan Valley, Rich Valley and Sumter, and the cities of Biscay, Brownton and Hutchinson Precinct 1. This commissioner seat has been held by Sheldon Nies for over 20 years and has not been contested since the turn of the century. For 2016, this is an open seat with Jeff Nies, Rich Pohlmeier and Brad Wick running in the primary election for this office. Only the top two vote-getters after the primary will advance to the general election.
This forum will be open to the public. Invitations have been sent to the Hutchinson Leader, The McLeod County Chronicle and the Winsted Herald Journal to attend. Invitations have also been extended to Hutchinson Community Video Network (HCVN) in Hutchinson and the Glencoe community access channel to record this event for those who cannot attend in person. Typically, these local access channels will replay this recording multiple times before the general election on Nov. 8.
This forum is sponsored by the Greater Minnesota Republican Women, who wanted to arrange a convenient location to include the residents from the south part of the county in this year’s election process. Tony Kielkucki from Winsted will be the moderator. Kielkucki is a retired high school teacher and a former two-term Minnesota House representative who served areas of Carver, McLeod, Meeker and Wright counties. Those attending the forum are welcome to submit questions.
