What a difference a weekend makes.
Plato entered the Region 7C opener on Friday, Aug. 5, riding high as defending regional and state champions and were also in full control of its season via an 18-game winning streak.
One loss to Plato changed all of that in the blink of an eye.
The eighth-seeded Bruins stunned the top-seeded Blue Jays with a 6-5, 10-inning defeat at Watertown – Plato’s first loss since May 22 – suddenly setting the Crow River Valley champions into a fight for their postseason lives.
While the Blue Jays were able to brush off No. 5 seed Young America 8-2 in their first elimination game on Sunday, Aug. 7, Plato must now face third-seeded Green Isle – the team the Blue Jays defeated in the 2015 state title game – this Friday night with the winner advancing to state and the loser going home.
