It was a topsy-turvy start to the season for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team.
The squad got its season off to a 2-0 start under new coach David Frasier, adding a 4-0 win at Worthington on Thursday, Aug. 30 to a season-opening 4-0 win at Rocori three days earlier.
However, the rigors of competing in the Wright County Conference reared an early head, as the Panthers were blanked 7-0 by visiting Mound Westonka in GSL’s home and circuit opener on Thursday, Sept. 1.
The White Hawks made it a busy afternoon for Panther goalkeeper Destiney Exsted. The sophomore saved an otherworldly 27 shots on the day in a game that the visitors led by a lone goal at halftime.
Exsted was coming off her second consecutive shutout after making a more soccer-esque three saves in the win at Worthington.
