The Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team claimed its inaugural victory of the season by defeating host Norwood Young America in five games (24-26, 25-22, 13-25, 25-21, 15-13) on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
“I’m exhausted and didn’t even play,” coach Lori Schwirtz said. “It was a long night, however, hard work, teamwork and discipline paid off. The girls never gave up and really fought for every point.”
The Panthers battled back from impending defeat at several points throughout the match, including a 7-3 deficit in the fifth and deciding game, while rallying for victory.
Maddie Monahan led the way for the Panthers with 16 total kills over the five games, while adding 30 digs.
Rhyan Herrmann had 24 digs, while also contributing 10 kills and a team-high three service aces two blocks.
Rachel Popp’s 32 digs led GSL, while Olivia Lemke and Lexi Hansch paced their squad with 22 and 17 assists, respectively.
The Panthers open their home schedule against familiar and formidable Hutchinson on Thursday night.
