Verna E. Polchow, 95, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Hutchinson Health.
The funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 2, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lynn Township, McLeod County, with the Rev. Eugene DeVries officiating. Marion Rick was the organist. Soloist Brian Rick sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want.”
Casket bearers were Brad Polchow, Brandon Polchow, Billy Jon Polchow III, Andrew Ellefson, Glen Polchow and Lawrence Polchow.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Verna Erna Polchow was born July 13, 1921, in Lynn Township, McLeod County, the daughter of William and Ella (Rettman) Polchow. She was baptized as an infant Aug. 7, 1921, by the Rev. Henry Albrect, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 30, 1935, by the Rev. J. Weiss, both at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lynn Township. She received her education at country School District 20.
She resided in the Hutchinson area her entire life. She was employed as a house cleaner for many years, retiring in 1987. She loved her cleaning.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lynn Township, where she served as an organist for more than 50 years.
Ms. Polchow enjoyed birthday parties and cards, crossword puzzles, reading and flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her brothers, William (Bette) Polchow of Glencoe, Marvin Polchow of Moorhead and Harold (Elizabeth) Polchow of Hutchinson; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ella Polchow; infant brothers, Alfred and John Polchow; and sister, Ruth Duesterhoeft.
