The Glencoe-Silver Lake tennis team wrapped up its full-squad season with a 4-3 loss at Southwest Christian in the opening round of the Section 2A Tournament on Monday, Oct. 3.
It was the narrowest of losses for the Panthers, who suffered three-set losses at both first and third singles after winning the first set in both.
Claiming singles wins for GSL was No. 2 Allie Harpel, who won in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and No. 4 Maddie Lemke, who won in a two-set sweep (6-2, 6-1).
The Panthers’ third and final win of the day came at third doubles as the duo of Sierra Trebesch and Sacha Willhite rallied from a first set defeat to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
Despite the loss, GSL’s three match wins were the most gained by the squad this season. The Panthers had not won more than one match in any of their 12 losses this autumn.
After a brief hiatus, the 2016 tennis campaign comes to a close with the sectional individual tournament, scheduled to take place on Oct. 13 and 17 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
