Heading into its Homecoming game, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team was at its low point of the season, carrying a 1-3 record and a three-game losing streak into a Sept. 30 matchup against Watertown-Mayer.
The Panthers used the Royals as a springboard, winning 47-7 on Homecoming night to inaugurate a four-game winning streak that culminated in a come-from-behind 36-22 triumph at Litchfield to close the regular season with a 5-3 record.
The Litchfield rally avenged a regular season-ending 7-6 loss to the Dragons last autumn and also earned GSL a No. 3 seed in the Section 2AAA Tournament and an opening-round playoff game at Stevens Seminary Stadium.
It also earned the Panthers a chance to return to where it all started – hosting Watertown-Mayer on its home field.
