Two of the three candidates for the Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board fielded a few questions at the Tuesday, Oct. 18, forum hosted by the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce.
All three candidates are incumbents and are running unopposed. At the forum were Donna VonBerge and Kevin Kuester. Jamie Alsleben had another commitment and was unable.
The school board candidates came up to the table at the tail-end of the session, and most attendees had left after the city council forum.
One of the first questions fielded regarded transgender students and restrooms.
Kuester said that most people are unaware of it, but GSL has been working with at least one transgender student.
“We dealt with it,” said Kuester.
VonBerge said she feels that if the school district has restrooms for males and females, it should also have bathrooms for transgender persons.
